The State government would approach the Centre, seeking funds for a separate women’s and children’s hospital at Mandya, said Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, here, on Tuesday.

After visiting MIMS Hospital, he said, there is tremendous pressure on the Labour Ward of the hospital. “Construction work for a 20-bed hospital is under progress. Additional rooms will be sanctioned to the hospital soon. The government will explore if it is possible to construct another floor, atop the superintendent’s office,” he said.

Lack of coordination
During his inspection, a lack of coordination among hospital authorities was observed. “I have directed the personnel to mend their ways. Action will be taken against the authorities concerned if such complaints are repeated in the future,” he said.

MIMS Director Dr Pushpa Sarkar said, there is a shortage of nurses and attenders at the hospital, and requested the minister to take steps to fill the vacancies. She said, the radiology department was the worst hit due to staff shortage.

The director also sought new equipment for the hospital. Dr Patil said, steps will be taken to sanction the necessary staff and equipment.

Deputy Commissioner Ajay Naghbhushan, ZP CEO Rohini Sindhuri and others were present.
