3,000 NCC cadets to perform on Yoga Day

Bengaluru will witness 3,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets perform yoga in front of Vidhana Soudha, on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, on June 21.

The event will be part of an exercise to create a “world record” with 11 lakh NCC cadets simultaneously performing yoga on the day. The exercise will happen between 7 am and 7:35 am and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to attend the Vidhana Soudha event, official sources said. Siddaramaiah will present a few of them with certificates of appreciation. However, it is not confirmed whether the chief minister will join the cadets in performing yoga.

The United Nations General Assembly, in December, last year, had adopted an India-led resolution, supported by over 175 United Nations member- states, declaring June 21 as International Day of Yoga, recognising that “Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the NCC cadets at New Delhi in January this year, had exhorted them to participate in yoga on International Day of Yoga and create a world record.

The sources said 67,000 cadets across the State will participate in the “record breaking” event and simultaneously perform various “asanas”. The cadets had been trained specially in yoga at camps between January and June this year, said the sources. As many as 15 asanas will be demonstrated by the cadets. The event will be coordinated by Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.
