City doctors against 'unethical' ad

The medical fraternity has protested against an advertisement of a training programme on Saturday which promises to cure diabetes in 72 hours sports the name of Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain as the chief guest.

The advertisement invites people for a two-hour-long training on curing Diabetes Type I and II within 72 hours. While it mentions Jain as the Chief Guest, the speaker would be one Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury.

The Delhi Medical Association has written to Jain that such events promote quackery. Doctors from DMA also expressed surprise that the Health Minister would attend such an event as the Chief Guest. Such misleading advertisements are also banned under the law. The presence of the minister can mislead poor patients.

“Such events promote quackery. It is not possible to cure a disease like diabetes in the time-frame mentioned in the ad. It will send a wrong message to the community if the Health Minister attends such events. We have called for action against such illegal promotions,” said Dr Ajay Lekhi, president, DMA.

The event is scheduled to be held in Siri Fort auditorium. The advertisement mentions one of the key highlights of the programme as the “untold science, commerce and arts of diabetes”. Live telecase at 6 pm, mentions the advertisement.
