Take steps to stop sale of liquor in grocery shops, officials told

In the wake of complaints from women in many villages regarding the sale of liquor in grocery shops, MLA B B Ningaiah directed the taluk-level officials to take measures to stop the same.

Chairing a meet of taluk-level officials at taluk panchayat in Mudigere on Friday, he said that complaints in this regard had been submitted to Superintendent of police and appropriate measures need to be taken soon.

He said that there was a need to earmark sites in every gram panchayat limits in the taluk, for siteless. Also, the beneficiaries of housing schemes who already have vacant sites should be provided with houses.

The Panchayat Development officer said there were requests to conduct survey of vacant lands in Taruve, Kundur, Kalasa and Koove villages in the taluk.

Lakes and graveyards in many villages, have been encroached. There are no other government lands and there has been a serious dearth of lands, to be provided for siteless, the PDO said. Encroached lands should be cleared and sites should be provided to the needy.

A minimum of 20 acres of land should be reserved for the use of the government in every Gram Panchayat, the officer added.

Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer (in-charge) Rudrappa, officials of Mudigere taluk panchayat and various Gram Panchayats were present.
