6 undergo polygraph test in Sunanda case

The Delhi Police have conducted polygraph tests of six people closely associated with Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the murder case of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, said the police on Monday.

This was done after a court allowed polygraph test with the consent of those named by the cops. Sources said the tests were conducted on Tharoor's domestic help Narayan Singh and Bajrangi, and family friends Sanjay Dewan, S K Sharma, Vikas Ahlawat and Sunil Takru.

It was conducted in the presence of their lawyers, who had earlier urged the police to follow proper guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission.

“So far, we have carried out polygraph tests on six people. We are waiting for the reports. If there is any requirement, we will conduct further tests,” Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi told mediapersons, adding that whatever needed to be done would be done till the Special Investigation Team (SIT) concluded the investigation.

Sources added that over 100 questions were asked during the tests, including questions about Tharoor's relationship with Sunanda and Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar.

“Questions also pertained to the Indian Premier League controversy, Tharoor and Sunanda’s trips to Dubai, and their alleged strained relationship,” said a senior police officer. Asked whether the SIT would conduct a polygraph test on Tharoor, Bassi said he would not like to speculate.
