Dhoni offers to step down after series loss in Bangladesh

Under fire after India's first ODI series loss to Bangladesh, an agitated Mahendra Singh Dhoni has lashed out at critics, saying if he is the reason for all the bad things happening to Indian cricket, he would “love to step away” from captaincy and contribute as a player.

“I am always the one who is responsible for anything bad that happens in Indian cricket. Everything that happens is because of me. Even the Bangladesh media is smiling,” said Dhoni in reply to a question at the post-match press conference after India suffered the ignominy of their first ever series defeat against Bangladesh.

Dhoni’s comments created a flutter, with former cricketers coming out in support of the captain.  Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said, “He still has a lot to contribute.”
