Tourism Minister R V Deshpande said, a Tourist Plaza would be constructed at the Exhibition Grounds, here, to cater to the tourists throughout the year.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Exhibition Grounds, on Tuesday, he said, he has asked Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman K V Murthy to submit a proposal in this regard to the Tourism department before July 15.

“The Tourist Plaza will house a food court; bank counters and ATM kiosks; shops for Mysore Sandal products and Cauvery Emporium handicrafts; and basic amenities such as drinking water and toilet facilities. Steps would be taken to attract tourists throughout the year by developing gardens, providing parking facilities and also constructing the Tourist Plaza,” he said.

Deshpande said, in view of providing more access to the Exhibition Grounds, an entrance would be provided on the MG Road and an ornate arch would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.7 crore, which is expected to be released next week.

He also visited the site of the upcoming building for the Maharani’s Commerce College at Paduvarahalli. Stating that the new building has been designed on the lines of the existing Commerce College, he said eight acres of land has been identified behind Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry for a new Maharani’s Science College.

He said, while the Maharani’s Arts College will continue in the old campus, the project for the new buildings of the Commerce and Science colleges includes hostel facilities.
