School beat

To bring sense of security among children who walk long distances to reach their houses, Dakshina Kannada police will introduce school beat system.

“We are planning to keep in touch with residents. Two police personnel in each station will be given charge of two to three villages. They should have complete details on village,anti-social elements in the village and keep in touch with atleast 50 community leaders with their phone numbers. They will be the first line source of information when untoward incidents take place,” the SP added.

The police-population ratio in Dakshina Kannada district is 50 for one lakh population. Against an accepted norm of 220 policemen for every lakh population, Dakshina Kannada has 50 policemen for the same population.

The State average is 130 for every one lakh population. The process of recruiting 50 constables have been completed and the document verification is in progress. The key post of Puttur DSP is lying vacant for the last six months.
