JOIN USA 26-year-old man on Tuesday committed suicide by consuming acid in a bathroom of a rehabilitation centre near Tavarekere where he was undergoing an alcohol de-addiction programme, police said.
Naveen, a resident of BK Nagar in Yeshwantpur, was an alcoholic and had been admitted to the centre just a week ago under a de-addiction programme.
On Tuesday, he went to a bathroom in the centre and consumed acid and then collapsed on the ground.
A while later, the staff at the centre noticed that he was missing. They checked the bathroom and found him lying unconscious there. They took him to the Victoria hospital where doctors tried to revive him. But he didn’t respond to treatment and died on Wednesday morning, police added.
Family members of the deceased have lodged a complaint against the centre’s management, claiming that the incident occurred because of the staff’s negligence, police said. A case has been registered at the Tavarekere police station and investigation is being carried on.
