Two unidentified men abducted an 18-month-old baby boy from outside his home after luring his grandmother into conversation.

The incident, which occurred in Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday evening, is suspected to have been motivated by a family dispute.

The baby, named Vijay, was playing outside his home located beside the Amba Bhavani temple in Vidyaranyapura when the abductors approached his grandmother and struck up a conversation with her around 7.30 pm.

Some time later, they managed to divert the elderly woman’s attention and took the boy away, police said.

The child’s mother, Eeramma, came looking for him but didn’t find him anywhere. It was only when she asked her mother about the child did the elderly woman realise that the baby was missing.

Eeramma had come to Bengaluru just three days ago to visit her mother. She lives with her husband, Moula Ali, a labourer, in Andhra Pradesh.

The grandmother said the abductors spoke Telugu. The Vidyaranyapura police suspect that a family dispute is at the centre of the abduction. They have launched a manhunt for the abductors and will question the baby’s family.
