Spl drive: 708 auto drivers booked

In a special drive against autorickshaws in the city, on Thursday, City Police booked a whopping 708 drivers for various traffic violations and collected a total fine amount of Rs 71,700 from them.

According to Police Commissioner B Dayananda, a total of 1,480 autorickshaws were intercepted during the drive that lasted eight hours starting from 10 am.

Among the violators, a highest of 378 were booked for wrong parking collecting a fine of Rs 37,800, followed by 131 for not wearing uniform and Rs 13,100 fine amount, 86 for demanding excess fare and Rs 8,600 fine amount, 24 for refusing to go for hire and Rs 2,400 fine and 26 for other violations and Rs 2,600 fine.

The other violations that were dealt under law included over-speeding, reckless driving, overloading, carrying excess school children among others, totalling 708 cases. The commissioner has appealed to the three-wheeler drivers to follow traffic rules.
