Rain continues to lash Kodagu

Kodagu district witnessed heavy rains on Thursday as well. Madikeri, Napoklu, Virajpet, Somvarpet, Shrimangala, Ponnampet, Gonikoppa and other areas received heavy rains.

As a precautionary measure, Deputy Commissioner Mir Anis Ahmed has declared holiday for schools and colleges in the district, on Friday and Saturday too. However, the PU supplementary examinations will be conducted as per the schedule.

Even though rains have receded in Bhagamandala, the movement of vehicles has been stopped at Ayyangeri road, owing to the flow of water.

Heavy rain has caused landslides and damage to houses in many areas of Madikeri. Vehicles plying on Boyikeri road were stranded as a tree uprooted.

DC paid a visit to Nelyahudikeri, Guhya and Karadigodu villages in Siddapur and examined the situation caused by heavy rains. He has ordered shifting of the families in the verge of danger, near the banks of River Cauvery, to a safer location.

Electric connections which have been defunct from the last five days in Virajpet, have been restored and with this, the problem water supply has also been solved. However, the electric connections have not been restored in many rural areas.
