The State government on Thursday submitted that it had given Rs 8.24 lakh as compensation to L S Leesha, the girl who was grievously injured in the bomb blast outside the BJP office at Malleswaram in the city in April 2013.

During the hearing of a petition by the victim, seeking enhancement of compensation, Additional Advocate General A S Ponnanna submitted that the government had paid Rs 6.24 lakh as compensation from the chief minister’s relief fund and Rs two lakh from the terrorist and naxal attack rehabilitation funds to her.

“In addition to this, we have written to the Centre to allocate Rs three lakh as relief from the Centre’s terror attack victims’ fund,” he said.

Justice A S Bopanna, who heard the matter, directed the counsel for the central government to inform by the next date of hearing regarding the stance of the government in this regard.

Leesha had to undergo a surgery and spent nearly Rs 10 lakh on treatment. She had moved the High Court, saying the compensation she got was “very less” and sought Rs one crore along with interest, by way of special relief considering her young age and meritorious academic record.

National policy sought

She said the government must formulate a national policy of compensation and rehabilitation of victims of terrorist attacks by setting up a special committee.
