The involvement of Women and Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde in an alleged Rs 206-crore anganwadi procurement scam has created a political storm in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena hitting out at the BJP and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
“This is a serious issue... I am confident that the Chief Minister is capable of answering these questions,” Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray said.
This comes as a surprise as the Mahajan-Munde family enjoys close relations with the Thackerays and the Shiv Sena did not put a candidate in Beed against Pankaja’s sister Pritam Munde in the byelections necessitated last year after the death of Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde in a road accident in New Delhi.
Fadnavis, who was in New Delhi, had to answer queries on these issues several times - to save the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government from further embarrassment.
