Man pushes wife into flesh trade, arrested

The Crime Central Branch officers on Thursday busted a prostitution racket at a house in Ganapathipuram in Subramanyapura, by arresting seven persons, including a man who had pushed his wife into flesh trade.

The police identified the suspects as Narasimha, 35, who sold his wife; Krishna, 32, a pimp, and five customers. They also rescued a woman from West Bengal. Nine cellphones and Rs 1,100 in cash were seized from those arrested.

Kusuma, 24, (name changed), was sold to Krishna, the pimp, by her husband Narasimha, a car driver, for Rs 30,000. He had told her she would be working as a domestic help at Krishna’s house. But Kusuma was gradually forced to sleep with strangers and was tortured when she refused.

A senior police officer said: “Kusuma, in her statement to the police, has stated that Krishna got customers on a daily basis and forced her to satisfy them. There were days when  she had to attend to more than 20 customers. No one ever bothered about her deteriorating health.”

However, Kusuma found a saviour in one of her concerned clients who tipped off a non-governmental organisation about her plight.

“The man immediately informed an NGO, whose activists went to the house and took Kusuma away on the pretext of checking her health. She narrated her ordeal to the members of the NGO,” the officer added.

Later, she was diagnosed with Aids and it is suspected that people who had sexual contact with the woman might have also contracted the disease, he added.

“Currently, Kusuma is being treated and cared for by the NGO. Based on the information provided by the NGO, we raided the house and arrested the people involved in the racket,” he said.

Kusuma and Narasimha hail from Tamil Nadu. She was forcibly married to Narasimha and moved to Arsikere a few years ago, as Narasimha wanted a job. The Subramanyapura police have registered a case.
