JOIN USA debt-stressed farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his farm at Siddegowdanahundi under Hullahalli hobli of the taluk on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Shivlingegowda (45). He is survived by father, wife and three children.
Police said the farmer had grown cotton on four acres. For which he had borrowed money at exorbitant rates of interest from moneylenders. Unable to repay the debt, he had left house three days ago. On Thursday, he returned home and committed suicide by consuming pesticide a while later.
Police have found an empty bottle of pesticide near Shivalingegowda’s body. He was cremated at his native village on Friday evening. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare, Assistant Commissioner Ayesha, Tahsildar Ramappa, Addl SP Prakash Nikkam and others visited the spot.
