Time to leap into live music

Areas like Indiranagar, Koramangala and MG Road have more eateries than one would care to remember.

And most of them play on loop the latest chart toppers, further indulging the sudden outburst of EDM and its sub-genres.

There are, however, hardly any venues that encourage live performances (that aren’t EDM), so when ‘blueFROG’ opened up recently on Church Street it was a blessing in disguise.
The three-tiered music venue provides a platform to budding artistes and well-known musical names from all around the world to showcase their best.

Prashant Clayton Mascarenhas, the co-founder of ‘blueFROG’, says that they wanted to bring in an exclusive performance space to the City.

While most popular hotspots are located in Indiranagar or Koramangala, he says that they made a conscious and collective
decision to bring it to Church Street. Adds Raksham Ram, another co-founder, “Where else? We wanted it to be in the heart of the city and give Church Street that pulse. The two of us studied down the road at St Joseph’s College of Commerce and we know the area.”

While the ground level

provides an exciting view of the stage, the upper level is more of an exclusive spot
for those trying to get away from it all. There is also an outdoor space.

This is a first for ‘blueFROG’ as the Mumbai and Pune outlets are a single level. The state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems are the cherry on the topping.

Another feature that sets the Bengaluru branch apart from the others is that it masks as an all-day dining space as well.

“The ones in Mumbai and Pune open only in the evening and have the vibe of a club. Here, one can get a fantastic dining experience,” says Raksham.

Adding that the City has a great ear for music, the two want to bring the best of every genre to the club.
“We aren’t pushing one particular genre; upcoming artistes from different genres are invited to perform here,” adds Raksham.

They proved this true when they featured a Rajasthani folk artiste recently. From EDM to folk, rock, metal and jazz, you are likely to find it all.

It’s only the evening shows that are ticketed; while there will be concerts in the afternoon, they are free of cost. The two say that they don’t want to heap the cost of the artistes on to the audience. The place can comfortably hold 450 people.

On the cuisine, chef Vikas says that it is a “modern and contemporary” one. “It’s a mix of contemporary and continental food. We have starters, grills, desserts... My lamb sheek kebab has three types of cheese, and the lemon mustard fish comes with marinara sauce. We don’t have one particular ingredient we are focussing on, it’s a blend of everything,” he adds.
