Abhijeeth inches closer to regaining title

Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta played out a swift draw with J Deepan Chakkravarthy and inched closer to regaining the title in the penultimate eighth round of the Commonwealth Chess championship on Monday.

Arghyadip Das defeated Abhijit Kunte to move to second spot with seven points, half a point behind Gupta.

Ravi Teja S drew with Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan and has 6.5 points. Defending champion Deep Sengupta bowed out of the race after managing a draw against Ramnath Bhuvanseh R.
Among the woman, Padmini Rout, the sister duo of Meenakshi Subbaraman and Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman are tied at six points.
