Rain disrupts power supply in South Kodagu

The people of Kodagu particularly those of South Kodagu have been badly effected by the incandescent rains lashing the district from the last few days.

Due to continuous rains from a week, many trees have been uprooted and electric poles have collapsed, resulting in frequent traffic congestion. The electric connection has been lost in many places and the line was restored after five days while those of the rural areas, is still defunct. The Chescom staff have been trying to restore the electric line and villagers have been helping them.

At present, the 66 KV line which is the main source of electricity to South Kodagu is defunct and there is no other standby line. Though another line, Kushalnagar-Madikeri-Virajpet, was recommended quite earlier, the project is not realised yet and an inordinate delay mars it.
If the Madikeri- Virajpet line was complete, the problem with the local lines could have been fixed in a lesser time.

A Chescom official said that though the proposed Madikeri-Virajpet 66 KV line is being discussed from several years, the result has been disappointing.

The district in-charge minister had recently directed the officials to complete the work on 66 KV line. But, the work does not seem to get completed till the next rainy season.
Ammatti resident Arjun felt that had the Chescom made suitable arrangements for the substitute line earlier, the problem could have been reduced.
