27 children rescued from plastic unit

As many as 27 children were rescued from a plastic recycling unit at Kumbalgodu in the City on Tuesday.

Based on a complaint lodged by child helpline in the City, an anti-trafficking cell raided the unit and rescued 27 children aged between 10 and 11 years. All the rescued children hail from Bihar and Odisha.

It was learnt that the children were made to work for more than 12 hours and in unhygienic conditions.

According to the police, the children were brought from Bihar and Odisha after paying a meagre sum as advance to their parents. They were not paid proper salary and were forced to live in inhuman condition on the premises of the factory.

Medical examination

The children were subjected to medical examination and were sent to the government-run home for the boys. They would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee on Wednesday and further steps will be taken said the police. A case has been registered in Kumbalgodu police station and investigation is being carried out.
