<p>Kuppanna Park, in the heart of the city, the new venue of the Dasara Flower Show, is all set to host the event for the second year. Works are under progress for permanent landscaping.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The ground work for the show has already begun and saplings of around 700 shrubs have been planted. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Senior Deputy Director for Horticulture C R Krishna Kumar said, as Kuppanna Park is going to the permanent venue for the annual event, in situ planting has been taken up. “Last year, as the venue was changed in a short notice from Curzon Park, the plants grown in pots were shifted for arrangement and display. Besides shrubs, seasonal flowering plants will be planted in situ at designated places. Last year, it was mostly lawn, but this year it is going to be different and flowers all over. Concrete plans will be chalked out once the theme is finalised in consultation with higher officials,” he said.<br /><br />“The Curzon Park was hardly three acres open space, but Kuppanna Park is nearly 10 acres and it can be the biggest attraction of Dasara. To handle the visitors, who are expected in large numbers, a thorough network of pathways will be laid, besides the existing roads. Beds in various shapes — stars, heart, etc — are being prepared, on which flowering plants will be grown to give colourful patterns,” Krishna Kumar said.<br /><br />He said, plans have been chalked out to renovate the existing system in the park and the roads, pipelines for water supply, drainages and the electrical lines will be refurbished soon.<br />Assistant Director for Horticulture H D Thimmaraju said, there is a proposal to organise cultural programmes on all days of the show, involving film stars, for entertainment of the visitors during evening hours.<br />DH News Service<br /></p>
