Ramzan: Mass prayers mark the festival in City of Palaces

Sir Khazi lays stress on girl's education; Netas, irrespective of community, take part in prayers

Muslim brethren celebrated Ramzan festival with much pomp and gaiety, in the City, on Saturday. Sir Khazi of Mysore Mohammed Usman Shariff, who conducted the prayers at Eidgah ground at Tilak Nagar, gave a clarion call to the community members to educate their wards, especially girl children.

Stressing on the significance of educating children, the Sir Khazi said, “Children are considered as the future of the country and hence, they should be groomed and educated well. Due importance should be given to girl’s education. Children are the assets of not just the community, but also the nation.”

Elaborating on the significance of Eid-ul-fitr, after observing roza (fasting) for one month, he said, the community should not ignore the weaker sections of the society. Zakath (giving alms to poor) should be practised without fail, helping others too to celebrate the festival, he added.

Spreading peace

Giving a call for spreading communal harmony in the society, he cited the example of the gathering, where people — irrespective of their economic background — were offering prayers at the same place. He prayed for unity and welfare of the country, marking the conclusion of the prayers.


Revenue and District in-charge Minister V Srinivas Prasad extended wishes to the community on the occasion.

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda thanked the community members for ensuring peaceful celebration, maintenance of law and order and also smooth flow of traffic.
The commissioner sought their cooperation in the future too, for making Mysuru a model city.

Chamaraja MLA Vasu donated an ambulance for the benefit of the community members. Nasir Ahmed, the driver received the key from Srinivas Prasad.

Prominent among those who offered prayers at Tilak Nagar ground were High Court Judge Mustafa Hussain, also president of Karnataka State Judges Association, secretary of Rifahul-Muslimeen Education Trust (RMET) Taj Mohammed Khan, former vice-chancellors B Sheikh Ali and Syed Akhil Ahmed, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) principal Syed Shakeeb-Ur-Rehman, Dr Javed Nayeem, Corporator Suhail Baig and president of Mysore District Wakf Advisory Committee Airf Mekhri.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, MCC Commissioner C G Betsurmath were also present.
Narasimharaja constituency MLA Tanveer Sait offered prayers at Masjid-E-Kutchi-Memon on Ashoka road.

Eidgah ground

An estimated 35,000 people turned up for prayers at Tilak Nagar ground, one of the biggest Eidgah grounds in the city, having a capacity for 60,000 members, while prayers were also offered at Eidgah grounds at Rajiv Nagar and Ghousianagar, besides various mosques in different parts of the city.
