There is a need to instil confidence in farmers, said District in-Charge Minister K Abhayachandra Jain.  Speaking to mediapersons after visiting the family of the deceased farmer G Thimmanna at Hullehalli on Sunday, he said that State government had earmarked Rs 1,500 crore for the welfare of the farmers. It is a tragedy that farmers are engaged in ending their lives.

The issue of suicide of farmers will be brought to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Stating that State government is committed to the welfare of farmers, the Minister said that the State government had extended its help to the farmers growing sugar cane, tur dal, coconut and other crops.

The Centre is silent over the suicide of farmers. A delegation will meet union minister seeking help to the farmers after the ongoing session.

Farmers should take up dairy farming, goat rearing, pisciculture to supplement the income rather than depending on single crop for livelihood, he added. The Minister personally gave Rs 10,000 to the family of the deceased.
