Many recitals

Natanatarangini, the school of dance and music, is conducting competitions in various art forms as a part of its annual celebrations on January 30 and 31.
The competitions will take place in the fields of Devaranama, Carnatic vocal, instrumental, Bharatanatyam, Bhagwad Gita recital and drawing. There is no age bar for the participants of classical dance and music.
However, the painting competition is restricted to boys and girls below 16 years of age. Those interested would have to go through a selection process before participating in the competition.

‘Sangeet Mahotsav’
The 27th Gururao Deshpande Sangeet Mahotsav, an all-night music mehfil, will be held on January 30, 9 pm, at Gymkhana Indoor Stadium, IISc, near Yeshwantpur Circle.
Artistes who will perform include Padmabhushan Prabha Atre (vocal), Pandit Vinayak Torvi (vocal), R K Padmanabh (Carnatic vocal), Uday Bhawalkar (dhrupad), Murad Ali (sarangi) and Rina Basu (vocal).

Carnatic strains
A Carnatic classical concert will be held on February 5 at Yavanika, Nrupathunga Road at 6.30 pm. Artistes performing are Maragadhavalli G on vocal, Bhuvaneshwari G on violin, Lakshmi G on mridangam, Dhayanidhi G on morching, Balaji on tabla and Thangavelu on kanjeera.

Annual fest
The 45th annual music festival of Karnataka College of Percussion will be held till January 29, 6.30 pm at the Sri Rama Mandira, between 8th and 9th Cross, East Park Road, Malleswaram.

Chamber orchestra
The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra Concert, presented by the Indo-German Cultural Society and the Goethe-Institut India, will be held on February 1, 7 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The programme in Bangalore includes pieces from great composers Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonín Dvorak. For details, call 25205305/6.

Spring strains
Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira has organised an Annual Spring Music Festival from January 31 to February 8 at Bangalore Gayana Samaja Auditorium at 5.45 pm. Reputed musicians like Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, T M Krishna and Sudha Raghunathan will perform on the occasion.

Fireflies Festival
The 2010 Fireflies Festival of Music begins at 6.30 pm on February 20 and will go on through the night till 6 am the next day. Fireflies has selected the theme of climate change this year in resonance with the growing international awareness of global warming and its impact on world communities.
The fest will feature an ensemble of musicians and artistes performing folk rock, soul fusion, nuances of sufi, qawwali, Kannada folk, Kerala folk, reggae and rap, percussion, jazz and soul-stirring veena.

‘Sound Clash’
Red Bull Sound Clash, an international event that involves two bands with different music styles battling it out through several rounds of competition while an MC and DJ get the crowd charged up and ready to applaud their chosen band to victory. In Bangalore, the event will take place at E-Zone, Marathalli, on January 30.
