He is credited for changing the face of fashion in Bollywood. It is undeniable that he tops the list of every leading lady and even men in Bollywood.

We are talking about the fashion guru Manish Malhotra, who has completed 25 successful years in this career. Malhotra, whose journey started as a costume designer, is well known for his rendition of the most coveted trends.

As the 6th edition of ‘Amazon India Couture Week kicks off in New Delhi, the ace designer is all set to grab eyeballs with his vivacious couture collection in the finale.

Metrolife caught up with the fashion guru who will be celebrating a decade of his label ‘Manish Malhotra’.

“In this edition, I will bring to you ‘Couture Soiree’, an evening reminiscent of the old world charm of the 1950s, when Western fashion was being revolutionised and fashion shows had a sense of intimate experience and luxury. It’s definitely my most different collection in terms of cuts, volume, embroideries and this is a preview to the London label, ‘Manish Malhotra London’. The colour palette is coffee brown, rose, pinks, metallic and burgundy. We are creating gowns which are modern but with Indian sensibilities,” says Malhotra.

“Guests would witness iconic moments in fashion. We are also going to present
a preview of our limited edition ‘Manish Malhotra London’ label. It is even
more special to me as it also marks the celebration of 10 successful years of my label ‘Manish Malhotra’ in August 2015,” he adds.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who had taken a vacation from fashion shows, has been roped in to walk the ramp as Malhotra’s showstopper. “When I think of a showstopper, I cannot think of anyone but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. When it comes to doing limited edition, a new beginning and re-invention, there’s no one more global than Aishwarya. Who could be a better showstopper than her!” reveals Malhotra.

Malhotra. who admires Rohit Bal’s work says, “The grandeur and cool quotient in his clothes is what I like. Adding to the list are Shahab Durazi and Ritu Kumar. They all are my seniors and I respect and admire them.”

“Among the best dressed in Bollywood is Amitabh Bachchan, without a doubt! Then, there are others like Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Rekha has a timeless appeal, as does Sharmila Tagore. Among the new generation, I think Kareena Kapoor is the name to take.

Internationally, I think Madonna is a fashion icon; she is constantly reinventing         herself. I think men there keep it simple; you see well-fitted clothes. Tom Ford, for example, is very fashionable, very smart and clean-cut,” he believes.

Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor continue to be his muses.  The designer adds, “I am currently focusing my energies on my London label, Manish Malhotra London, which I will be previewing at the event.”
