Three farmers end lives

Three farmers committed suicide in the past 24 hours in the State.
Nagalingappa, 45, from Halaguru in Malavalli taluk, Mandya district, consumed poison on Monday afternoon. He was admitted to the Halaguru government hospital and from there he was being shifted to the town for further treatment, when he died on the way.

He took up farming four years ago, before that he was a private bus driver. He had obtained a land on lease and is said to have taken loan to the tune of Rs one lakh, along with his wife.

In another case, Yellappa Katenavara, 55, from Kanavalli of Haveri taluk, hung himself on Tuesday. He had grown maize and had loaned Rs 80,000 from the bank.

A 49-year-old debt-ridden farmer from Somalapur in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district committed suicide by jumping into a well on the premises of Someshwara Temple on Monday night.


The deceased Somashekaraiah, who used to grow vegetables on his 4-acre dry land, had borrowed a loan of Rs three lakh from a bank.  Cheluru police have registered a case on unnatural death.
