'I am trying to balance my roles'

Her bold and dynamic look charms B-town. Despite the regular glitz and glamour that the Bollywood world is usually filled with, you will never see her doing any mainstream, commercial dance numbers, and clichéd roles.

At 28, actress Richa Chadda has been widely appreciated for her non-conventional
and strong roles in movies like Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram Leela and many more.

However, with the recent release of Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan, Richa seems to have crossed all boundaries and her own personal record as an actress. “If I don’t enjoy the role that I am doing, then how will the audience?” says Richa, giving a one line reply to all queries thrown at her.

From a don in Fukrey to an angry wife hitting her husband in Gangs of Wasseypur, one associates Richa with someone who likes being in a dominating role.

In response to her ‘image’ that has developed in the minds of people, she rebukes, “This is the worst thing that an actor can ever come across. We work so hard for each and every character that we are assigned in a movie and getting to know about such perceptions is really irritating.”

With similar hard work did she prepare for Devi, her character in Masaan which she proudly claims, was written for her.

“It was a beautiful script and I think it would have been stupid to not take up such a role. I am very moved by the movie and so are the audience. I feel very confident and positive about Masaan,” adds Richa.

Having worked with veteran director Anurag Kashyap during the Wasseypur series, she feels more comfortable with Ghaywan, who also worked with Kashyap as his assistant director during the same.

“Neeraj is closer to my age group, while Anurag Sir is a senior to all. We all call him ‘Daddy’. He (Kashyap) has always been like a guide and mentor,” she tells Metrolife.

Meanwhile, Richa is all set to portray a commercial role with director Kaustav Niyogi.

“The commercial roles that I am doing haven’t come out as yet. I am trying to balance them now. We will finish the shooting of the movie by October this year, and it will be released by January next year,” she adds.
