Sixty-four people were arrested by Mumbai Police following raids at hotels on Madh Island and Aksa beach here for allegedly indulging in indecent behaviour in public.

Police rounded up some couples from hotel rooms in Madh Island on August 6, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

The arrests were made after raids were carried out by a team of police officials led by Deputy Commissioner (Zone XI) Vikram Deshpande at several lodges, resorts, two-star hotels and on the beaches, police said.

The arrested people were later brought to Malwani police station and booked under Bombay Police Act, they said.

"Some people found in guest houses were allowed to go after enquiries," said Kulkarni.

Three cases were also registered under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, police said.

The arrested persons were fined Rs 1,200 each before being let off later.

Parents of some college students who were held were also called to the police station, they added.
