History-sheeters find place in Congress list

The Congress and the JD(S) appear to be vying with each other as far as fielding those with criminal backgrounds to contest the elections is concerned.

Many history-sheeters, including Imran Sharief from Padarayanapura and Yelu malai from Sagayapuram, and those with criminal background figure in the list of Congress candidates released on Sunday.

The KPCC has denied the ticket to contest the polls to 34 members of the recently dissolved BBMP council. The party had a total 60 corporators. The remaining 26 former corporators have been re-nominated.

Party sources said that former mayor K Chandrashekar has been denied the ticket from Hanumanthanagar ward. He had sought the ticket, but had not submitted the application for it to the party. When contacted, he denied that he had sought the ticket. Former deputy mayor Indira too has not get the ticket.

Congress MLA from Chickpet R V Devaraj has managed to get the ticket for his son Yuvaraj from Sudhamanagar ward, while former MLA N L Narendra Babu’s brother N K Mahesh Kumar has got the ticket from Nagapura. Former chief minister S M Krishna’s one-time gunman R Manjunath has got the ticket from Mallasandra ward.

The party, sources said, is likely to change the candidature of Yelumalai, who is a history-sheeter, from Sagayapuram.

Party workers who were disappointed that their leaders did not get tickets staged protests in many wards. Supporters of Krishnamurthy, who was denied the ticket from Nagapura, locked up the KPCC main office on Queen’s Road and staged a dharna. They demanded that former MLA Narendra Babu should quit the party.

Former corporator Mallesh, who was denied the ticket from Subhashnagar, severely criticised Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. He is likely to contest as a rebel candidate. The party has fielded L Govindaraju.

Sangliana upset

Former city police commissioner and former MP H T Sangliana hit out at the State Congress for not giving representation to the Christian community. He reportedly said that the party had given tickets to those who are into real estate. The party workers belonging to the community are planning to field independent candidates in some wards, he warned.

Tainted among party nominees

Controversial former corporator K S Samiullah, owner of Shabnam Developers, where two were killed by an underworld gang in 2007, fielded from Jayanagar East.

Seema, wife of rowdy sheeter Althaf Khan, renominated from JJ Nagar ward.

Former corporators Gowramma (Azadnagar), L Govindaraj (Ganesh Mandir) and Avvayi (Sudhamanagar), who were trapped by Lokayukta police, denied ticket.

History-sheeter Yelumalai’s name figures in the list for Sagayapuram ward.

Imran Sharief, who has been given ticket from Padarayanapura, is a history-sheeter and has a murder case against him.
