Fr Muller Medical College Hospital gets NABH accreditation

Father Muller Medical College Hospital has been granted accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Health Care Providers (NABH). This has been effective from August 3.

Speaking to media persons at the institution here on Saturday, Director Fr Patrick Rodrigues said Father Muller Medical College had been accredited by the NAAC and the laboratory of Medical College Hospital by the National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL). It is the first institution in the State to get the accreditation of all the three bodies, he claimed.

The attempt to get NABH certificate started four years back. Before issuing the rare honour, the NABH considered several factors – continuity of care in the hospital, care of patients, management of medication, patient rights and education, hospital infection control, continuous quality improvement of the hospital, responsibility of management, facility management and safety, human resource management, information management system and essential documentation, he said.

A state-of-the-art rural health centre has been set up with all facilities at Thumbay. Service is being provided at eight sub- centres in Bantwal taluk. The three-year project to establish a simulation lab worth Rs 10 crore is under progress. The institution also has over 40 intensive care beds and is the only hospital with burns ICU. It will get another medical ICU in three months to treat critical cases.

The college has been selected under the Smart University project by the parent Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. An auditorium with 1,250 seats, a state-of-the-art indoor stadium and a multi-storey parking complex are also being constructed, he said.
Hospital administrator Fr Richard Coelho, Medical College administrator Fr Rudolph D’Sa, Thumbay Hospital administrator Fr Roshan Crasta, assistant administrator Fr Ajith Menezes were present among others.
