Three vehicles damaged in suspected poll violence

Last Updated 12 August 2015, 20:59 IST

In a case of suspected poll-related violence, three vehicles parked outside a house at Maruthi Nagar in Nandini Layout were damaged on Tuesday.

According to the police, miscreants had damaged the windshield of two cars and an autorickshaw. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning, when the residents woke up to find their vehicles damaged. They informed the police, who went to the spot and inspected the vehicles.

The incident took a political turn when a few BJP workers alleged that the associates of Congress candidate M Nagaraj had committed the offence. Nagaraj, along with his supporters, stormed the local police station and staged a protest demanding that the police arrest the miscreants, said the police.

Nagaraj told the police that people were spreading false rumours about him. “We have taken the CCTV footage and are examining it. The residents claimed that three persons armed with machetes were chasing another person. As the man escaped, the miscreants, in a fit of rage, went around damaging the vehicles,” he said.

A senior police officer said, “Party supporters are taking advantage of the incident and blaming each other. We will examine the CCTV footage and arrest the miscreants. Only after that we wil get to know who the real culprit is.”

BJP workers blamed the associates of Congress candidate M Nagaraj for the violence. But Nagaraj dismissed the allegations as false.
