Last Updated 17 August 2015, 18:43 IST

Burglars attempted to rob the Mandya District Central Cooperative Bank (MDCC) on the premises of Manmul dairy at Gejjalagere in the taluk on Sunday night.

It is said that the miscreants tied security guard Krishnappa, 65, with a bedsheet from behind when he was having his dinner and assaulted him. They tied his hands, legs and  stuffed a cloth in his mouth to prevent him from making any noise.

They later broke four locks on the front door of the bank and gained entry. They also damaged the CCTV camera installed on the premises and also disconnected the wire of the siren in the bank.

With the same ferocity, they tried to break open the door, where safety lockers were located.

As their attempts to open the door failed, they have left behind the materials they used to burgle the bank and fled the scene of crime around 11.30 pm, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, Krishnappa freed himself from the rope and screamed for help. Another security personnel at Manmul dairy came to his rescue, but by the time the miscreants had fled.

Acting on the complaint, the police visited the bank on Sunday night and inspected the spot. Town police have registered a case.
