Does bhindi grow from a seed?’ ‘What size gamla (pot) will a lauki plant need?’ ‘How much should I water my cucumbers?’ ‘Shall I speak to my karela plant in Hindi or English?’--These are some questions of aspiring gardeners which will be answered by a workshop being held at antiSOCIAL, Hauz Khas Village.

AntiSOCIAL has been fostering and encouraging alternative endeavours in various fields including habitat, arts, culture, films and music etc. With Season 2, which has just begun, #antiSOCIALab - a month-long series of fun and useful workshops will be held at the venue, the first being a hands-on session on kitchen gardening on Saturday, August 22.

This will be a practical workshop on growing vegetables, fruits and herbs at home along with inputs on ways to be a successful gardener.

For beginners it will be a learning experience on the basics of designing and planning a garden; seeding, weeding and harvesting; pest management and composting. with little stress on theory, enthusiasts will also be able to create their own sapling pots, learn to identify seeds, and pick up the basics of companion planting. It’s guaranteed that one will not leave this workshop without getting their hands muddy!

Growing one’s own vegetables is both fun and rewarding. All one really needs to get started is some decent soil and a few plants. But to be a really successful vegetable gardener — and to do it organically — one needs to understand what it takes to keep the plants healthy and fruitful.

Things that gardening enthusiasts will take away from this workshop are confidence to start their own vegetable garden, excitement about plants, gobar pots: one seeded and one with a sapling.

The workshop will be held at antiSOCIAL, Third Floor, 9A & 12, Hauz Khas Village on Saturday, August 22. Time: 1pm - 4pm (includes theory, hands on activities and a break). Registration fee: Rs. 800/- all inclusive of tools and pots.
