
Three farmers committed suicide, two of them from Mandya district, in the State on Sunday.
Puttegowda (45), a farmer from Panakanahalli in Mandya taluk committed suicide by hanging himself. He is said to have borrowed Rs 40,000 from a co-operative society and Rs two lakh from a moneylender. He had sown paddy and again borrowed money from private persons.
In another incident Kumar (40) hung himself to death at Neelanahalli in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district. He had grown sugarcane on 20 guntas of land and had borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh in his wife’s name from a self-help group. He had also taken a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh from a private moneylender.Thirty-two-year-old Bhimshi Basavanni Shedbal ended his life by consuming poison at Bendwad village in Raibag taluk of Belagavi district. Shedbal had gone missing from Thursday and was found dead at his field on Sunday. His family members claimed that the he took the extreme step since he was finding it difficult to repay the Rs three lakh loan he had borrowed.
