Soon after the Bangalore City - Nanded Express train derailed on Monday morning, railway officials were pressed into action and buses were deployed to ferry stranded passengers.
Around 20 buses brought back 800 passengers to Bengaluru. Passengers of the stranded Hampi Express were sent to Anantpur and by road from there to Bengaluru, said Anil Kumar Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railways.
Fifteen trains were diverted, eight trains were rescheduled, two cancelled and three partially cancelled. Railway officials cleared the track by 3.20 pm and trains plied normally.
