One army officer was killed when Pakistani troops opened fire on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in frontier Kupwara district of north Kashmir on Tuesday.
A defence spokesman said a junior commissioned officer (JCO) was hit by a Pakistani sniper near Badal Post in Nowgam sector of Kupwara, 100 km from here, at around 1 pm.
“The officer was seriously injured in the firing and succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital,” he said, adding the identity of the slain JCO, and other details of the incident will follow in due course.
Pakistani troops have been violating ceasefire on LoC and International Border continuously since July. However, most of the ceasefire violations have been happening in Jammu region.
