Drug user hangs himself at Nimhans

A 28-year-old man, who was undergoing treatment for drug abuse at the Nimhans de-addiction centre, hanged himself from a window grill inside a room in the ward, the police said.

The deceased Vijay Kumar, a labourer and resident of Marathalli, was addicted to drugs. He was admitted to Nimhans a month ago as he was suffering from a mental disorder and was shifted to the de-addiction centre on August 24.

The hospital staff found his body hanging inside the room around 4.30 am on Wednesday, said the police.

In a complaint to the Siddapura police, Kumar’s mother Dhanalakshmi said that his son had committed suicide due to the negligence of the hospital staff and sought action against them.
