Last Updated 27 August 2015, 19:43 IST

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), run by the Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha, has approached the High Court seeking quashing of the single judge order which had imposed a cost of Rs 3 crore to be paid to three medical students who had lost one year of their MBBS academic year.  The court had passed the order in a petition filed by Girish Rithvik,  R Lekhashree, Sreekar Surapaneni and Vadaanya Venkatesh, the medical students who were fighting for one medical seat.

The court ruled the medical seat in favour of Girish on merit basis and directed the KIMS to pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore each and also to refund their admission and management fee paid by the students.

While Lekhashree and Sreekar Surapaneni withdrew their writ appeals after they were given NRI seats, Vadaanya’s appeal is pending before the court.

The KIMS has sought directions from the court to quash the single judge order. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna adjourned the  hearing till Sept 7, 2015.
