Seminar on 'Contemporary Kannada Journalism'

Dr Niranjana Vanalli Abhinandana Samiti and Belthangady Taluk Pathrakarthara Sangha will jointly organise a national seminar on ‘Contemporary Kannada Journalism and a programme to honour writer and  journalist  Niranjana Vanalli on his 50th birthday at Sri Sharada Kalyana Mantapa, Ujire on August 29 from 9.30 am, said Felicitation Committee Honourary president K Pratapsimha Nayak.

Addressing a press conference, he said Journalist Hariprakash Konemane will inaugurate the programme, while SDM Education Institutions vice president Prof S Prabhakar will preside overthe function.

Theatre artiste and film actor Mandya Ramesh and others will be the guests.The first session at 11 am will be on the challenges before contemporary Kannada journalism.  Mangalore University Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Head Prof G P Shivaram will preside over the session.

Senior journalist Ravindra Reshme, Dr A S Balasubrahmanyam of Bangalore University, Dr Wajida Bano, the special officer at Mangalore University will be present on the occasion.

The second session will be an open interaction on media and Mangalore University Kannada Professor Prof Somappa will preside over the session.

Udayavani Editor Balakrishna Holla and others will take part. Bangalore University Journalism Department former professor Prof H S Eshwar will preside over the third session on life and writings of Dr Niranjana Vanalli at 2.15 pm.

Dignitaries from various streams of journalism like Sadananda Perla, Shivananda Kalave, Ravindra Bhat will take part in the session, pratap added.

Valedictory

The valedictory programme of the seminar will be held at 4 pm. Alva’s Education Institution Chairman Dr Mohan Alva will preside over the valedictory function.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader, Member of Legislative Council Capt Ganesh Karnik, artiste Vilas Nayak will be present in the valedictory programme. “Gadayuddha” Yakshagana will follow the valedictory programme, Pratapsimha Nayak, informed.
