The web of lies and deceit got more complex on Saturday as the Sheena Bora murder investigation progressed, with the accused and witnesses contradicting each other, making it more difficult for the Mumbai Police to establish motive behind the crime.

.
The recovery of an active passport of Sheena from the Dehradun residence of Rahul Mukerjea, the victim’s live-in partner, and her brother Mikhail Bora's revelation that an attempt was made on his life as well on April 24, 2012, have made the case more complex, with more sordid details coming out.

Star India ex-CEO Peter Mukerjea will be called to the Khar police station once again, where he is expected to be confronted with his wife Indrani Mukerjea nee Bora. So far, Indrani, her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai have been arrested in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Sheena, her daughter presumably from her first husband, Siddhartha Das.

“Investigations are in progress. We are on the right track. We have been constantly questioning the accused and confronting them. We are still speaking to the witnesses. Early next week, we plan to recreate the whole story right from Sheena's kidnapping from Bandra to her murder, keeping her body in a car in Worli and carrying it to Pen, where it was disposed of. We will take all the accused there,” said a senior police official conducting the investigations.

During the recreation of the scene, the cops will also visit the place near National College in Bandra, from where Sheena was kidnapped, Peter and Indrani's Marlow residence in Worli, the Hiltop Hotel where Sanjeev stayed, and then head for Pen, where the body was disposed of.

Asked about the recovery of Sheena’s passport from Dehradun, he said: “It was based on investigations.” Asked why Rahul did not confront Indrani, he said: “Indeed, he had confronted her, but he was told Sheena had gone to the United States on a new passport.”

Police sources also said Indrani has been giving evasive replies and has so far not confessed to her role in killing Sheena, while Sanjeev has confessed being in the car and his role. The police are also planning to record Shyam Rai's statement under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code before a Metropolitan magistrate, so he cannot contradict on it.

Meanwhile, reports also said the cops have traced the SUV in which Sheena was strangulated to death and her body transported to Raigad. The car was sold through a dealer. Mikhail, meanwhile, has claimed Indrani had called him from Guwahati to Mumbai to discuss financial matters. He said he was offered a drink spiked with sedatives at the hotel where Sanjeev stayed. After he started feeling groggy, he grew suspicious and managed to escape.

Asked about this, the police official said: “Yes, it appears true, but we are verifying facts and corroborating the evidence.”
