African drug peddler held

The CCB police arrested an Ugandan national for allegedly selling cocaine and seized 117 grams of the banned substance worth Rs 6 lakh, two cellphones and Rs 135 from him.

The suspect was identified as Vincent Ekwenze, 25, who hails from Ruganda in Uganda, said the police.

On a tip-off, the police arrested him in front of an electronic showroom on 100 feet road in Indiranagar when he came there to sell contraband on Friday. Vincent came to India for a health check-up on a medical visa. He stayed in Mumbai for a while and shifted to Bengaluru.

He was staying with a man from Nigeria in T C Palya and was employed at an eating joint, African kitchen, there, said the police.

During interrogation he claimed that he wanted to earn more money and procured cocaine from sources in Mumbai. He would pay Rs 100 per to procure a gram of cocaine and sell it for Rs 6,000 in Bengaluru, he said.

Vincent also claimed that he had lost his passport. The police are questioning him.
