Tamil Nadu to unveil new MSMEs policy

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced that it would soon unveil a new policy for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa told the Assembly that the new policy will not only create job opportunities in the State, but also encourage MSMEs to pave way for the country’s economic development.

Stating that with an investment of over Rs 67,000 crore, and 11 lakh registered MSMEs in Tamil Nadu which provide jobs to more than 60 lakh people, Jayalalithaa said, “With a view to making Tamil Nadu, ‘the Asian capital for MSME’, a new policy for MSMEs will be unveiled soon.”

This new policy would not only provide solutions for the challenges faced by MSMEs, but would also pave the way for achieving the goals envisaged in the Vision 2023 document of the government.

Claiming that the MSMEs in the state have already attained high growth, the Chief Minister said that in a bid to further improve their competitiveness, a research at the global level would be carried out.

“The research would help in assessing the current competitiveness of the MSMEs in the state, and will compare them with their global counterparts and attain greater heights,” she added.
