Greenvein Tree Trip started its plantation drive from Christ University in the City on Monday.

Greenvein is an environmental organization established following the 2013 floods at Uttarakhand, with a mission of planting and protecting one billion trees all over India. They have initiated a Himalaya-to-Kanyakumari Tree Trip and aim to cover one lakh kilometre.

On Monday, noted environmentalist Dr A N Yellappa Reddy, Greenvein’s Chief Coordinator Swami Samvidanand and Greenvein Karnataka State Coordinator Sethu Lekshmy Nair planted Mahua and Arjuna trees, along with the lecturers and students of Christ College.

Nair said that from September 1, 2015, Tree Trip will cover educational and religious institutions in Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru and Ramanagar.

The Centre for Social Action of Christ University has assured that the saplings will be cared for and a report will be submitted to Tree Trip. In the meantime, Tree Trip volunteers will also be inspecting the saplings once a week.
