Rs 25 lakh for revamp of Banakal PU college in Mudigere

The Department of Pre-University Education has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for the repair and construction new rooms at Banakal Government PU College and Rs 16 lakh has been released in the first phase, said Mudigere MLA B B Ningaiah.

Speaking to mediapersons after performing ground-breaking ceremony for various development works at the college on Tuesday, he said that the condition of the college was explained to Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar during his visit to the college last year. The minister had sanctioned Rs 25 lakh on spot, the MLA added.

The work on new classrooms and patchwork to stop leakage will be carried out in the first phase. The commencement of works was delayed due to rains, Ningaiah said.
The rains in the month of June have caused heavy damage in the taluk. The roads in rural areas are completely damaged. The government has sanctioned Rs 60 lakh as emergency compensation to the taluk.

Soon after the rains, the development of roads will be taken up in the taluk, Ningaiah added.

College Development Committee president Vijendra said that though the college had achieved good results, the shortage of rooms had become a big headache.

The Rangamandira of a private school is being utilised for teaching as there is no other option. The works should be up to the standard and should be finished on time, he said.
