A family drama of sorts was played out at the Khar police station here on Friday as Indrani Mukerjea née Bora’s husbands and companion were grilled in the sensational case involving the murder of Sheena Bora and a failed attempt to bump off Mikhail.

This was done to know the exact motive behind the crime, the money trail or whether a fourth person was involved, sources said.

When 43-year-old Indrani was brought to the Khar police station from the Bandra police station, her current husband Peter Mukerjea, a former CEO of Star India and co-founder of INX Media Pvt Ltd, was already answering questions.

Peter Mukerjea, 59, is credited with launching TV content like Amitabh Bachchan-hosted “Kaun Banega Crorepati” and mega-hit family soap like “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”.

The media tycoon was being treated as an important witness in the case and was questioned on personal and financial matters and also on his name being used to book the car inside which Sheena was murdered. The car was used to dispose of the body. For three consecutive days, Peter was questioned for over 12 hours daily.

A little while later, Indrani’s co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai were brought in. On Thursday evening, Indrani’s former live-in partner, Siddharth Das, the father of Sheena and Mikhail, was flown to Mumbai from Kolkata, where he is currently settled.

Besides others, Vidhie Mukerjea, the 19-year-old daughter of Indrani, was also questioned in the police station and her statement was recorded. She was accompanied by Peter’s Goa-based brother Gautam Mukerjea and his wife Arti Mukerjea.

The development comes a day ahead of the production of Indrani, Khanna and Rai before the Bandra magistrate’s court, where police are expected to seek extension of their custodial remand.

While Peter Mukerjea entered the police station around 10 am and was still inside at the time of going to press, at around 8 pm, Vidhie with her uncle and aunt were seen leaving the police station. Vidhie was seen going inside with a laptop and it is learnt that her laptop and other gadgets like tabs and cellphones were checked by the cops.
