15 children injured in boiler explosion

 Over 15 students and seven kitchen staff sustained injuries when a steam boiler exploded at the kitchen of Arvind International School at Girigowdanapalya in the taluk on Friday noon.

Kitchen staff Bharathi, Susheelamma, Triveni and Shantamma have suffered grievous injuries in the incident. They were rushed to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, where they are undergoing treatment for injuries at burns ward.

A group of over 15 schoolchildren, who were heading towards bathroom to wash their hands after having lunch, sustained injuries after a boiler in the kitchen went off. Most of them suffered injuries after being hit by shards of window glass.

Teachers and children ran towards the playground following the deafening sound of explosion. Chaos prevailed on the school premises for a while after the parents of the students and people rushed to the school following the explosion.

Injured students and the kitchen staff were rushed to the hospitals in the school bus, 108 ambulances and ambulances of M M Hospital in the town.
The cause of the explosion is not known yet.
