CATS ties up with WIPRO for emergency services

Last Updated 05 September 2015, 01:57 IST

The Centralised Accident & Trauma Services (CATS) tied up with private player WIPRO on Friday to set up a state-of-the-art modern control room at Laxmi Nagar here for providing emergency services to patients.

In July, the Delhi Cabinet had approved the CATS’ Home to Hospital Care scheme. Under it, patients can avail free transportation to nearest hospitals in case of drowsiness or unconsciousness, sudden urine retention in the bladder causing discomfort, breathing problem, dislocated bones and deep cuts with profuse bleeding. The control room will be responsible for tracking the nearest ambulance and send it to the patient’s home.
Currently, the CATS provides transportation to road accident victims, pregnant women and victims of sexual assault besides carrying out inter-hospital transfers.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between CATS and WIPRO. The modern control room will be functional in the next six months.

It is being set up at a cost of Rs 13.9 crore. This includes maintenance cost and the technical support cost. It will be able to track ambulance on a real-time basis through GPS.
It will also notify hospitals in advance that the patient is due to arrive. In several cases till now, patients were taken from one hospital to the other and were refused admission due to non-availability of beds. With the new system in place, this is likely to change.

With real-time data available, the staff at the control room will be able to monitor the vacancies in hospitals and will assign patients accordingly in the emergency department.

Patients are often referred arbitrarily from one government hospital to the other and they have no clue where to go to.
