Two farmers end lives

Two farmers committed suicide across the State in the last 24 hours. A debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at Kadara-naiakanahalli in Harihar taluk of the district. Police identified the deceased as Maheswaraiah (27) of the village. The man owns four acres of land. He had sown maize and suffered crop loss due to scarcity of rains.

He was upset for not clearing the loan amount of Rs four lakh he had borrowed from banks and money lenders. The Malebennur police have registered a case.

A farmer committed suicide by hanging himself at Nuggehallikoppal village in Bannur, T Narsipur taluk, Mysuru district, on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as A N Manchu (35). He is said to have taken the extreme step over his inability to repay his mounting debts.

Manchu had borrowed from moneylenders to grow mulberry crop on his two-acre land. Dejected over the falling sericulture prices, he took the extreme step, according to his family members.
