Bomb hoaxer confesses to killing wife

Last Updated 06 September 2015, 20:21 IST

The tale of the bomb hoax at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) by techie M G Gokul has taken a new twist, with the accused confessing to his wife’s murder during interrogation.

Gokul had sent WhatsApp messages and called the KIA on Saturday, claiming bombs were planted on three flights.

The police said he called using the SIM card of a friend named Joseph (name changed).
A top police source said Gokul had married West Bengal-native Anu about six-seven years ago, and they had a child.

However, things started to go awry between them, and Gokul had developed a liking towards the wife of his friend Joseph, who lived in the same apartment complex.
Gokul tried to woo Joseph’s wife, but in vain, said the source. Another police source said when Gokul was asked during interrogation about the motive of the murder, he claimed his wife was having an extramarital affair and was an alcoholic, and so he decided to murder her. He then decided to get close to his friend’s wife.

“However, this is yet to be ascertained,” said the official.

Late on July 27 night, Gokul reportedly murdered Anu and slept in the house throughout the night.

The next day, he told the police he had found his wife dead, and that she had committed suicide while he was asleep.

The police found wounds on her body and suspected something was amiss.  Since there was no complaint lodged by anyone, the police were forced to register a case of suspicious death under Section 174 (C) of the IPC with the Madiwala police station on July 28.

Anu’s father, who had retired as a senior government official in Jharkhand, also came down to the City. He, too, did not suspect that Gokul might have killed Anu.

However, the police had found that Gokul had not slept early that fateful night, as he had claimed, because his WhatsApp details showed he was chatting with people till 1 am.

“Gokul had left many clues, but could not do anything as there was no complaint against him,” said sources. Meanwhile, Gokul reportedly kept on wooing Joseph’s wife and trying various means to get Joseph arrested, including making hoax calls using his SIM card.

“The case of suspicious death will now be converted to murder case. For now, we have more angles to probe. Once that is done, we will book him for murder,” added the officer.  Gokul’s child is currently living with his maternal grandparents.
