A woman travelling to Kochi from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) lost gold and diamonds worth Rs 30 lakh.

The police said Frazer Town-resident Nirmala James took a flight to Kochi on August 28. On reaching Kochi, she realised gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh were missing from her bag.

Nirmala thought they were in one of the other bags and went home. When she checked later, she could not find the bag containing the valuables. She looked for the valuables everywhere but in vain. She even took the help of the Kochi Airport officials but could not trace them.

She recalled checking the valuables in at KIA after which they went missing, said the police. She later called her daughter Megha in the City and narrated the incident.

“Megha approached the International Airport police station on Saturday and lodged a complaint. The police will examine CCTV footage and check if the valuables were stolen or misplaced. If required, we will ask Nirmala to come show us where she walked through the airport. Also, we will check if she had left the bag in the cab. We will have to learn why she was carrying so many valuables,” said a senior police officer.
